The commercial arm of our business provides insurance to businesses across the UK, on everything from vans to commercial buildings. We protect businesses from the costs of building damage, accidents on the road and at places of work, and we prevent business interruption when the unthinkable happens.

Investing heavily in our people, processes and service, we’re building a great business for our customers and our employees. This is predominantly across three brands that reach a broad selection of small and medium enterprise customers:

  • NIG provides insurance to SMEs through brokers and operates out of nine regional offices where our experts build relationships and trade with brokers in their area
  • Direct Line for Business is for smaller companies that prefer to deal directly with an insurer

Your career path:

Our commercial graduate programme is split into two ‘streams’, management and analytical. When you come along to one of our assessment centres, we’ll talk to you about your preferences and make sure you’re placed in the area that best suits your skills and interests.

  • Management
The management stream is best suited to graduates looking to develop their already strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Analytical
The analytical stream is focused towards graduates with excellent numerical and problem-solving skills who are keen to work in a more analytical role, such as underwriting.

Both business areas within our commercial arm offer their own unique challenges, and include:

  • Underwriting
  • Sales
  • Marketing
  • Finance
  • Product development
  • Projects

We strongly believe in developing our people with training and support. You’ll find learning opportunities readily available, as well as more structured development programmes for people who show real promise. Prove to us that you’ve the potential to form a part of our future growth, and we’ll support you to shape the future of the wider insurance industry too.

What we look for:

Highly motivated and articulate, you’ll need to be a quick learner and able to balance your leadership skills with your ability to work as part of a team. You’ll also ideally be:

  • An analytical problem solver
  • Numerate
  • Commercial

It’s also essential that you have achieved at least 300 UCAS points and a minimum 2.1 for your undergraduate degree in a relevant subject, such as:
